A Walk On The Wild Side

A Walk On The Wild Side

This tour of both the South and West coast includes a combination of walking and travelling in a vehicle. It is an absolutely stunning tour where you will view some of the best scenery the Island has to offer, with possibilities of spotting red deer, foxes or even a badger, see dinosaur footprints, caves (depending on the tide) and both north and south coasts of the Island at the same time.

We start at Chale and then progress via Shorewell and Brighstone to Mottistone. (See the exterior of the beautiful 14th century Manor, plus opportunity to go inside the quaint and historic St. Peter & St. Paul’s Church, with surprising connections!) Walk up to The Longstone (fascinating Megalithic monument with a great supporting legend). Visit the spectacular caves at Freshwater Bay (tides permitting). If not – drive on to Chessell. Walk up to Brook Down to see Five Barrows (Megalithic burial site). Drive on via Brook Bay to Compton Bay. Walk along the beach here to find superb dinosaur footprints. On to Freshwater Bay (dependent on tide). Walk to the caves on the west side and the cove on the east side. From here – drive on to Totland. Walk up onto Headon Warren (views over both sides of the Island and of The Needles. Then to The Needles Park, walk either to The Battery and The Needles or down 180 steps to Alum Bay and witness up close the amazing multi-coloured sandstone cliffs.

This walk is unsuitable if you are unsure of foot, although not extremely difficult. Certainly, please wear adequately supportive footwear. Like all our tours, this can be shortened and tailored to suit your requirements and time available.
