Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Isle of Wight Guided Tours different from other tour companies?

Every tour is led either by Jane or one of her expert partners (or a combination of both). Both Jane (owner and main private guide) and the specialist ’partners’ with whom she works, all have at least a decade’s worth of local knowledge.

Tours are bespoke, unhurried, and designed around your interests — with comfort, care, and personal attention at the heart of everything.

Who are the tours suitable for?

Anyone who is looking for an upper end bespoke experience of the Isle of Wight which is both culturally rich and personally meaningful. This applies to solo travellers right up to groups of around 15 people.

How does the planning process work?

Planning begins with a friendly conversation. Once you get in touch, Jane will learn about your interests — scenery, history, fossils, literature, Victorian Island, gardens or anything else — and create a tailormade itinerary. Nothing is “off the shelf”; every tour reflects you.

What transport do you use?

For individuals and couples, we usually use an executive car. For groups of three or more, we use an executive minibus. Whichever vehicle we use, we always work with a trusted, professional driver (where we have arranged the transport ourselves). The goal is always comfort, safety and an enjoyable journey between locations.

Can you arrange pick-ups from London or the airports?

Absolutely. Many guests travel to the Isle of Wight directly from London Gatwick, Heathrow, or central London. We can advise you on the simplest routes — whether by car service or train - and can also pick you up in Southampton, Portsmouth, or on the Island itself.

Do you help with accommodation and dining?

Yes. Once we know your budget and preferences, we’re happy to recommend or arrange accommodation, restaurants and local experiences. Many visitors appreciate having everything coordinated as a package.

How long are the tours?

Most guests choose a full day on the Island or a 2 to 5-day short break. But everything is flexible — from a half-day walk on Tennyson Down to a multi-day exploration of history, scenery, gardens, fossils, family heritage, etc. Day tours tend to be 7 – 8 hours on average.

How accessible are the tours?

Many itineraries can be adapted for guests with limited mobility. Jane will suggest routes that minimise walking or steep terrain and ensure you have an enjoyable, comfortable visit. Please mention any mobility needs when you get in touch.

Can I join in with another person’s tour group?

Normally not, as we are offering a highly personalised service. However, once or twice we have done it when several people have wanted exactly the same tour at the same time. For example, this can work well with cruise ship guests where several parties are arriving at the same time and all wanting the same Island tour. Filling our 16-seater minibus (or as good as) has proved both successful and fun on a couple of occasions.

How do I book a tour?

Simply visit the Contact page and send Jane a message with your travel dates and interests. She will reply personally, discuss options with you, and help you plan a bespoke itinerary. There is no obligation — it all starts with a friendly conversation.
